I'm passing along the top three things I've learned from my new moms who chose to return to work. I hope it helps any one of you going back any time soon.

1. Don't compare yourself to your pre-baby work self.

You're not the same person you were when you left. Your baby now plays on a volume in your head at all times. It takes time to learn how to regulate the volume. You will find your groove. What other women have done or not done may not be helpful. Your situation is unique, just like you. Don't pressure yourself.

2. You will absolutely feel like quitting at least once during the first month back.

Don't make any major life decisions for at least 60 days. (Unless you're experiencing severe postpartum depression or anxiety. Then taking extra time home is a must.) Most women can make the job work for them within three months. It takes at least that long to find a routine and feel like it's a new normal.

3. With all things.. Patience.

The big emotions and feelings that go along with returning to work are temporary. Like everything in life, they have a beginning, middle, and end. You need and deserve a wide berth for all you'll be feeling. Give yourself grace and time.
